Springing into Spring

Springing into Spring

Hey everyone!

First, Herc update!! He had his third chemo treatment last week.  He will unfortunately have to have one more in about a month.  He seems to be doing very well.  He has moments of feeling a bit under the weather but, all in all, his spirits are high and he has energy!  He tackled a braided bully stick with one paw a few nights ago! We are so proud of him.

We have been staying very busy on the farm these past couple of months.

We planted the garden a few weeks ago (before the hot weather hit) and it is doing very well.  We haven’t had much rain so we are having to water it ourselves about every other day. Learning from a few of our last year mistakes we labeled each row, we are staying ahead of the weeds and grass and we widened the planting rows.  Check out the little cart for my tractor!  I went around collecting rocks the other day with it.  It will help when harvesting vegetables, as well as, many other tasks.   So far, we have peas, beans, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, radishes and much more popping up!

We also finished the mudroom, i.e. catroom!!    I love it.  I still want to add some cubes on the wall for them to sleep in and climb on but, for now, they seem to love it.  And, we have a camera installed so, I can check on them at anytime.  They spend from about 9am – 5pm outdoors, then we load them up for the night. They are used to this routine and voluntarily load themselves up each evening.  It’s actually quite cute.

Oh, by the way,  I solved the hummingbird feeder/cat issue.  We moved them under the lower part of the deck.  We even made swings for them.  Cats can not even come close to them! Right now we only have a few little ones showing up but, I know that will change soon.

I finished my part of the chinking process!  I am so glad I got this done! It’s a bit tedious but, it looks so much better with it.  Al will work on the high areas probably in the Fall.

Another small project was adding railings to our stairs.  I was relieved to get this done.  It was definitely needed.

My sister and brother-in-law came to visit us at the end of April.  We spent our time antiquing, visted Cumberland Gap, and had a picnic there.  The guys went to the shooting range, i.e. the new berm. Still needs some work but, it did the trick! We hiked the property using our very own handmade walking (tobacco) sticks! We also relaxed in the hot tub and sat out by our little chimnea. We had a wonderful time! I love when they visit. They love our dogs as much as we do!  🙂

I spent Mother’s Day weekend in Georgia.  It was such a memorable one.  I’m so blessed with the best daughters and granddaughter ever! I came home to handpicked flowers and a beautiful necklace from Al. It was truly one of the best Mother’s Day for me.

The weather right now is unseasonably hot.  I’ve been trying to stay indoors as much as possible. So, I’ve made candles,    bath bombs and we processed a bunch of meat for the freezer.

Speaking of meats, I found the most awesome recipe for a Chick-Fil-A copycat sandwich.  When you live an hour away from the nearest Chick-fil-a, I’m telling you, this was a beautiful thing!  Here’s the recipe for those interested.

I have several patriotic crafts in process as well.  I hope to share those and my patriotic decor with you in my next post.

This week I will begin Spring Cleaning.  I’ve put it off long enough.

Thanks for reading!  Hope you enjoyed it!

XO,

Elisa
