I’m currently sitting at the dinner table typing this while watching it snow for the gazillionth time.\u00a0 Ok, maybe it’s just the sixth or seventh time.\u00a0 Lots of snow here this year and we are loving it.\u00a0 Snow is fun when you have nowhere to go and a huge fireplace. We’ve hardly spent any time in the hot tub since Fall.\u00a0 We are completely addicted and satisfied to just stare at a large fire each evening.<\/p>\n

So, still staying true to the whole chronicle order thing…..<\/p>\n

In late June both guestrooms and bathroom had been completed so, we moved on to the loft area.\u00a0 \u00a0We only had contractor grade stairs and literally 2 x 4’s used as the railing.\u00a0 It’s what got us through inspection but, Lord, what an eyesore.\u00a0 \"\"<\/a>\u00a0\"\"<\/a> I was so happy to finally get some much prettier and safer rails installed.\u00a0 But, as with most projects and tasks, it came with a price and I’m not talking monetarily.\u00a0 I believe I stained over 142 rails! \u00a0 \"\"<\/a>\u00a0 Staining has become very zin to me these days.\u00a0 :-\/ Above the loft was a large return vent and beside it a very big hole.\u00a0 If you look at the first picture above you can kind of see what I am talking about.\u00a0 The HVAC unit is stored up in this little space.\u00a0 I mentioned awhile back that I was thinking of making this space my office.\u00a0 Well, once the gigantic HVAC system was installed that was a big ‘no can do’.\u00a0 So, I wanted to get creative with the hole and how it would get covered, as well as, how in the heck could I cover up an ugly return vent.\u00a0 When looking up there from the main floor I knew it needed to be eye catching. Al and I put our heads together and decided to build a set of barn doors.\u00a0 The door covering the vent stands out about three inches from the wall to allow proper air flow.\u00a0 The other door opens and closes to give us complete access to the HVAC unit and, as an added bonus, we can store some random items in that space as well.\u00a0 I hung some wreaths up on the doors during the Christmas season. \"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\u00a0I loved them there so much I believe I will let them stay for now.\u00a0 The barn quilt above the doors was installed very early on after our move.\u00a0 We have since added a light above it. \u00a0\"\"<\/a>\u00a0 We are so happy with how it turned out.\u00a0 \u00a0We still need to add some trim and a handrail for the stairs. Other than those items, the upstairs is pretty much complete!\u00a0\"\"<\/a> \u00a0\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n
