Furniture Extravaganza

Furniture Extravaganza

Hello Again!

As I mentioned in my previous post, we’ve moved some furniture around to make way for some new pieces I acquired antiquing, and in turn, have some furniture available for the basement.

It all started with this beautiful hutch I purchased from someone in Atlanta of all places!   We moved the credenza to the basement and this piece took its place in the great room.  I fell in love with it. Well, that got the ball rolling!  I knew then that I wanted to fill the upstairs and loft with some antique pieces. Now, I needed a coffee bar cabinet.  I wanted an old wash stand and my sister found me one in Jasper, GA.

The current end table has a rustic look so, it moved to the basement as well.  I looked for a three legged side table but, could not find one anywhere.  Then, this past weekend I stumbled on to this old cast iron stove.  It fit perfectly.   The coffee table headed to the basement as well.  One thing about this cabin is there just doesn’t seem to be enough storage space.  I am always getting creative in trying to utilize every inch of this place in order to find more places to store things.  So, I found this cedar chest at an antique store here in TN.    It had a bright red tint to it with multiple wet glass spots on the top.  So, I ended up refinishing it.   I think it’s a beautiful piece and I can store my blankets and pillows in it!

For the loft, again, I needed more storage so, I began to look for a hutch of some sort.  I found this one through Facebook Marketplace.  I love it but, it’s now moving to the basement.  I think a larger hutch would look better and again, storage.

Now, you would think, “ok, she’s done”.  Nope! Some random finds on my antiquing journey…

I found this rocker that is over 100 years old!  I will refinish it and replace the leather seat. It will live in our bedroom.

I also found this cabinet on Facebook Marketplace.  I initially wanted to use it in the bathroom to store meds, etc. But, it was just too big for the only spot it could sit in. I decided to replace the drawer fronts as some were practically falling off.  This is a work in progress.

I have been wanting to learn to use some heavier tools so that I could help Al out with bigger projects.  This will definitely get me started.  I will be using a chop saw, table saw, planer, router and nail gun!  I’ll show you this project when completed!  It will either live in den area of the basement or my office.  I’m thinking it would work great in storing all my craft stuff.

Oh, I did find the perfect medicine cabinet for the bathroom last weekend.    It freed up so much space in the closet!

I am still on the lookout for a cabinet to hold my turntable and albums.  I would love to find an old victrola cabinet.  I think that would be awesome.

With all that said, the basement is almost completely furnished.  We will only need to purchase a couch and loveseat.  And, as a bonus, we were able to see parts of TN we probably would never have gone to see otherwise.  It’s been quite the adventure!

Thanks for reading! Let me know your thoughts!

XO,

Elisa

  1. Love all the stripped furniture. You did a great job! Hopefully I can make it to see the spring decor before it becomes patriotic in July! 😂
