We need more to mow!
With June coming to a close and the mowing (relatively) under control we set our sights on expanding the amount which could be mowed. The “barn” field had a 200 foot welded wire fence at one end which separated the lower barn field from the upper section which was approximately 700 x 200 feet wide. The first thing was for Pokey to pull out the 20+ T posts so we could wrap and salvage the welded wire. Here is Bun doing a pre-inspection of the posts
Once the fencing had been removed Pokey could back up along the steep grade and start mowing
When complete a few hours later, the expanded field was quite pretty. With subsequent mowing the pasture grass will choke out the weeds and the whole field will turn green.
With 51 acres mowing is always on the mind, but the end of June/beginning of July is also blackberry season! We have large tracts of blackberries growing on the property. This was the first harvest – approximately 4 hours of picking yielded a large cooler full of blackberries!
Once the blackberries were safely back at the house they were promptly turned into 42 jars of blackberry jam!!
