Instant basement!
With the remote location of our home and the weight of a log home the preferred option is to install a pre-cast basement. The basement is made in a factory and then shipped in 10 foot wide sections of concrete wall, approximately 12 inches thick. Each segment of the wall weighs upwards of 10k pounds. Unlike the log home vendor, the basement wall people took care in selecting their equipment for the site. Their trailers were shorter to better navigate the twisty roads…
…and they arranged to have “help” in the form of a bulldozer to help push them up the hills
Once the trailers with the walls were in place the crane arrived. Not just an ordinary crane, but off road version of a crane with three drive axles which had no trouble on the hills
Once onsite things moved quickly!!
Sometimes, there needed to be a break for inspection. Bun was always there to give a review on progress. Here she is checking out my future office window
with inspection complete it was back to raising walls
and in just 4 hours the whole basement was done
Not only was this trip important for the basement, but we also needed to install some very critical warning signs. With the increase in the number of workers we felt it necessary to warn of the ever present Labs, especially as they like to “escort” vehicles and sleep under them while waiting for snacks. Elisa had this covered with her cricut
And the lab warning signs were installed along the road and near the parking area for the crew.
Honey approved of these safety messages, even though it is normally her sister, Bun who is caught sleeping under vehicles!
