It’s spring – but winter is coming!
With Elisa’s pending retirement her schedule was a bit overwhelmed. That, along with no heat in the trailer, made this weekend a trip for me rather than her.
Late March is still very early for spring in the mountains. That means less mowing and time for other tasks. One of those tasks includes preparing wood for use as firewood during the following winter. On the last trip many fallen trees were gathered and this trip focused on getting that wood processed into firewood. Processing the wood includes splitting the logs and while it’s fun to split some wood by hand it definitely does not scale for farm life. So with that in mind the largest log splitter that Tractor Supply sells followed us home. The 40 ton splitter is designed to be pulled behind your vehicle like a small trailer, but the tires did not seem up for the task and Pokey considered it to be a very portable splitter!
With the splitter on the plateau it was time to turn the pile of fallen trees from this:
Into this:
It it truly amazing how fast one can process firewood when using the right equipment!!
As Honey reminded us last trip, the RV furnace wasn’t working and it was still cold! Extensive research on the 20 year old trailer showed that parts were no longer made for the furnace. Thankfully, there is a newer furnace that runs on 24 volts instead of 12 volts and the failed relay can be adapted for use on the 12 volt system. So for only a few dollars the furnace was happily back online!
With warm temps inside the RV Honey was quite content on her little bed with her blanket
