Knee High to a Dinosaur
Hey Everyone!!
So, this past trip was nothing short of a mow fest. I could not believe how much the grass had grown since our last visit in April. Literally, a month ago. It was, and some parts still is, knee high to a dinosaur. Forget the grasshopper! I was overwhelmed! (Al’s truck is lifted, by the way) It has rained so much this Spring. It’s beautiful and green though!! I’m just glad we made the decision to buy me a tractor. We are sure gonna need it! 50 acres ain’t no joke! Meet Wile E. The newest member to 13Dog Farm.
We arrived in the early morning hours of Friday. First thing we noticed, besides the grass being so tall, was the fridge in the RV had stopped working. Everything in it had to be tossed. That meant a trip to the grocery store to stock back up and purchase some ice. We eventually figured out it is a thermostat issue. It had cooled down pretty well the day before we headed home. So, it works, just not well enough to leave food in it again. Hopefully Al can fix it on the next trip. Spent much of the day just getting situated. We added a third battery to the solar array. This helps us in utilizing the Keurig which, believe it or not, sucks power. We also managed to mow the grass around the RV. Shorter grass, I am learning, helps keeps the flies and gnats down.
Saturday we woke up to rain showers and met a new friend. Side note: The birds are crazy here. So different from back home. Here is where a bird made a nest in the bumper of the RV.
They tend to land in and around us all day as well.
Al found a nest in the big barn with a baby in it! Love!
Ok, back to Saturday….. we made homemade biscuits and waited for the grass to dry out enough to mow. Well, that never happened. So, we had a relaxing day. All in all, Saturday was a wine and tick picking kind of day. We did jack up the RV. It had settled in from it’s first day on the plateau.
Last visit we installed a remote camera to DogTired. This enables us to see any movement that might come around the RV when we are not there. We planned on installing another camera at the barn, but unfortunately, we realized that the wifi does not reach that far. But, my genius husband will somehow make that happen soon enough I am sure.
Sunday brought beautiful sunshine!! We mowed the plateau together which took a few hours. I got my first farmers tan! ha!
I also spotted a turtle crossing the area to go to the pond. Good thing I was serious about locating and avoiding rocks. I might never have seen him. Al picked him up and relocated him to the pond area. Unfortunately I was not serious enough and managed to hit a rock and bent the under carriage of the mower. So, just like that, Wile E. could no longer mow. Al can fix the problem but, he didn’t have the right tools available. We realized I need a bush hog attachment for Wile E. This way I do not have to worry so much about the hidden rocks. The mower will be used closer to the RV and eventually around the cabin once it’s built. So, bush hog is on order! I do love my tractor though! We hung a flag at the front gate
and had a wonderful cookout Sunday evening.
Honey apparently jumped into the pond and well she turned green. That silly dog loves to get wet. She is a lab though.
We had planned to stay most of the day Monday but, it once again, began to rain so, we packed up and headed home.
Here are a few pictures I took on Sunday.
Until next visit!!!!!
