Dreams

Dreams

It has always been my dream, for as long as I can remember, to own a cabin out in the middle of nowhere.  Part of my childhood was spent on a farm in Mississippi.  There were few neighbors and  I always remember it being peaceful and quiet.  Everyone lived simply.  I loved that.  Thankfully my husband, Al, shares this same dream!  For the past 4 or 5 years we have spent our vacations in a cabin somewhere out in the middle of nowhere. We commit to only staying in and around the cabin. The dogs come along, of course, so there is always stuff to do. We hike. Do puzzles. Watch movies. Work on projects. Sit out on the porch listening to the sound of nothing. This is our happy place.

We recently spent our honeymoon up in Sevierville, TN. We have been looking for the right property to build our very own cabin on for nearly 4 years. Off and on looking and even venturing to some of these properties to see firsthand. Nothing has clicked with us. Too big, too small, wrong location, nothing is ever what we envision.  It just so happened while on our honeymoon we had been eyeing this nice piece of property up in Thorn Hill, TN.  We broke our commitment and left the cabin to go see this property. It was only an hour from where we were staying. Our trips to see other properties were so disappointing. We weren’t happy with what we saw and we spent an entire day traveling to see it! So it made sense to go. Pulling up to the gate was a bit daunting. There were cows on the property!  I thought, “Well this is different”.

There is a small shed (not pictured), a small barn and a big old barn on the property.

We drove on up to the plateau and well, it was breathtaking.

We left there and that is all we talked about for the rest of the vacation.  We were dreaming big.  How we would build there.  What we would do with the barns.  The area.  The peacefulness.  The view!
